چکیده

To achieve high performance transaction systems vertical as well as horizontal system growth is considered. A prime obstacle for linear performance growth is the unfavourable ratio of I/O time vs. CPU time in systems using conventional disk architecture. For this reason, we propose a fast and non-volatile extended memory which provides synchronous page-oriented access for closely coupled processors. We discuss its properties supporting high volume transaction processing. Subsequently, we investigate its performance behavior using simulation driven by load models derived form real applications. Simulation results are presented for centralized and distributed computing environments.

Use of Global Extended Memory for Distributed Transaction Processing

In current mainframe architectures, extended memory is used as a pageaddressable main memory extension to improve I/O performance. If made non-volatile, extended memory can significantly increase transaction processing performance. In this paper, we study how locally distributed transaction systems may use shared extended memory to support high transaction rates and short response times. We out...

A hybrid approach for database intrusion detection at transaction and inter-transaction levels

Nowadays, information plays an important role in organizations. Sensitive information is often stored in databases. Traditional mechanisms such as encryption, access control, and authentication cannot provide a high level of confidence. Therefore, the existence of Intrusion Detection Systems in databases is necessary. In this paper, we propose an intrusion detection system for detecting attacks...

High Performance Transaction Systems on the SB-PRAM

The SB{PRAM is a shared memory parallel machine under construction in Saarbr ucken. With the help of simulations we have evaluated the performance of transaction systems on this machine. We use the well known DEBIT/CREDIT benchmark as workload. According to the simulations the machine reaches 6000 transactions per second with 256 data disks, 32 log disks and 128 processors, although each proces...

Extending a Persistent Object Framework to Enhance Enterprise Application Server Performance

High-volume transaction processing speed is critical for adequate performance in many enterprise application servers. We describe our experiences using an object-oriented persistency framework to achieve greatly enhanced server response by the transparent use of main-memory database technology. We took an application server whose data persistency is abstracted via a persistent object framework ...

On Scalable and Flexible Transaction and Query Processing in Main-Memory Database Systems

The hardware landscape for database systems has changed dramatically over the past two decades. Today, the traditional database system architecture that was pioneered by System R and is implemented by IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and Postgres, shows weaknesses in all major areas of application of commercial database systems: operational transaction processing, decision support and busi...
